Yamaha XS V1 Sakura New Age Retro
Yamaha had launched the original XS series in 1970 with a 650cc engine which was also their first 4S engine. Paying a tribute to the series, this New-Age-Retro has a 1000cc air cooled V-Twin engine. With Yamaha, Honda also showcased their Retro prototype CB1100 (F & R) at the Tokyo Show and Kawasaki, Triumph, Ducati all reviving the retro heritage, motorcycling seems to have come the full circle. Officially, the Sakura has been mentioned as a prototype, rather than a concept, so there’s a hint that it could become a production machine in the future. Also the design looks ready for production mode with no out-of-line styling. The headlight, slimline dash, brake discs, all look the retro with a modern neo touch.

Lucifers Hammer from HARLEY DAVIDSON
Engine: 998cc. OHV, 4 stroke, V-twin
Transmission: 4-speed
Power: 104bhp
Weight: 130kg (2861bs)
Wheelbase: 1,420mm
Top speed: 254kph (158mph)
Actually that was not the only Lucifer’s Hammer. There was another Lucifers Hammer and this was a Buell RR1000. You see the photo, that’s Gene Church with the Buell Lucifer’s Hammer and sans bodywork. The second Lucifer’s Hammer or LH2 was a marriage of an XR750 lower end with an XR1000 top end. The chassis was a Buell RR1000, the second RR1000 that Erik Buell made and Don Tilley still has it. What I couldn’t understand was that any company has to get 50 production versions of the bike to homologate it and then so how come there are only 2 LH? Somewhere I read #2 to #50 were all RR1000 but only the first bike was named Lucifer’s Hammer. As I said, not much history anywhere, so anyone with some more clarity would be really appreciated for their contribution.

Time Out MOTO GUZZI Videos
The new banner graphics has been created by Scott, owner of the fantastic website, Pipeburn. We became known to each other when we were guest writing for Bike Exif during December end and January start. Scott said this blog needed a permanent styling which I really agreed to and he said he would even do the styling! I was humbled and more so when I saw his beautiful designing. The graphics will stay and the motorcycle photo will keep changing to give the blog a refresh look now and then. Visit Scotts magnificent website, Pipeburn if you havent already.
Thank You Scott for everything.
I have been off-blog lately, nothing stress related or overwork, just taking a break from the blog to get refreshed. In the meantime, thanks for all the mails and I should resume blogging soon. Posting some good Moto Guzzi videos lying on the hard drive.
