Moto Guzzi The New Retro
Its no secret that I am a fan of Moto Guzzis V7, particularly the Guzzi V7 Racer (EMD posting: Lust at First Sight):
An homage to the renowned racer, the Guzzi V7 Sport, who can resist the red frame and accents, clean cafe racer lines, the neat #7 racing badge, the chance to ride fuel injected vintage style?
Coupled with Brembo brakes, Perelli Demon Sport tires, fully adjustable Bitubo rear shock absorbers and a 40m, Marzocchi front fork, I know I cant. (Although the $2,000 premium over the V7 standard model does provide a certain amount of dissuasion.)
But for those terminally dissatisfied curmudgeons out there, who still want something more, Guzzi has heard your grumblings.
For you, Moto Guzzi has created the V7 1970s endurance racer! Or at least a bolt-on factory kit that will transform your V7 into a 1969-inspired V7 Record prototype:
For those who arent schooled in the 1960s endurance racing record books, the V7 Record was an endurance racer that set numerous speed records for Guzzi, including one at Monza Speedbowl Circuit where the V7 achieved an average speed over 621miles at 128mph.
For the Care and Racer V7 models, the kit is simple to install, especially for an Italian machine: the front faring requires no modifications to the stock headlamp assembly and the seat is a clean substitute for the original.
The Classic, Stone and Special are almost as easy to retro fit, but do require a set of clip-ons available through Moto Guzzi.
Gentlemen, and Ladies, start those engines and prepare for a modern ride back to the cafe racer 60s!
