2012 Yamaha Star Raider SCL

Last year Yamaha Star Cruisers introduced the all-new 2011 Star Stryker, an affordable performance driven machine gleaming with fresh factory custom cruiser style. Read more in our 2011 Star Stryker First Ride. With the Stryker bridging the gap between its big brother, the 1854cc Raider, and its nephew, the V Star 950, it left us wondering what could be next from Yamaha’s cruiser division.

After extensive research and input from focus groups, Star Motorcycles announced it will be furthering its presence in the factory custom market with the release of the 2012 Star Raider SCL, with SCL standing for Star Custom Line. The new Raider SCL will be limited to a production run of 500 and will be released in the year 2012. By limiting numbers, Star hopes to create a true factory custom with “unmatched style and quality at an affordable price.”

The 2012 Star Raider SCL comes with distinct features inspired by the custom cruiser market. A six-layer paint process combines custom quality, high-metallic Blazing Orange paint with metal flake developed exclusively for Star Motorcycles. Custom graphics cover the bike along with a special SCL tank badge made of metal with an exclusive hologram integrated onto the badge which marks the production number of the bike and reminds the owner that it is one of only 500 in production. Braided stainless steel throttle cables and clutch and brake lines have been designed specifically for the Raider SCL adding another distinguished detail to the bikes look. Star and Performance Machine collaborated on the custom 5-spoke wheels with a matching chrome pulley and belt guard which furthers the Raider SCL’s production custom look as does its genuine leather two-tone seat with orange stitching and embossed SCL logo. Ring up the custom treatment individually and there’s more than $6000 worth of work in the SCL if you were to customize the motorcycle with aftermarket parts.

At the heart of the Raider SCL is the standard Raider S engine, a potent 113 cubic-inch fuel-injected V-Twin with 1854cc of power. The chassis and suspension are stock as well, with the rake continuing to be set at a deceptive 39-degree angle. Star designed the SCL to be custom in its look without compromising its reliability and performance. In concept, Star Motorcycles intends on producing limited edition factory customs on future models offering style and quality rarely seen on production motorcycles and 2012 marks the beginning of the Star Custom Line. Launching the SCL line with its flagship cruiser model the Raider makes perfect sense.

Pricing on the Star Raider SCL will be set at $19,990, an amount which makes it very competitive among factory custom cruisers on the market today. Star Motorcycles has a reputation for providing quality cruisers at a reasonable price point, but seldom do you find a limited edition factory custom for under $20,000.
